On 1st October 2024, All Pakistan Students Union (APSU) at SCPS, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, organized an informative and interactive workshop on Drug Information, Patient Counseling, and Expiry Management and Disposal. The session aimed to enhance students’ understanding of medication management, patient counseling, and the importance of expiry management in pharmaceuticals.
Key Points Covered During the Workshop:
Medication Management: Best practices for the correct use and management of medications.
Counseling Tailored to Specific Medication Classes: Providing detailed counseling for different classes of drugs.
Possible Drug Interactions: Understanding the interactions between different drugs and their effects on patients.
Patient Education on Utilization of Drugs: Educating patients on proper drug usage for better health outcomes.
Texture Observation for Capsules, Tablets, and Powders: Learn to observe the textures of different dosage forms to ensure proper identification.
Expiry Management: The significance of managing and monitoring drug expiry dates for safe usage.
Proper Disposal Methods for Tablets, Syrups, Powders, and Suspensions: Safe and environmentally responsible disposal of expired medications.
Proper Packaging: Emphasis on safe and secure packaging techniques to maintain drug integrity, prevent contamination, and avoid degradation.
As part of the workshop, medicines brought by APSU were checked for expiry dates, and expired medicines were properly discarded according to their dosage forms.
The workshop was guided by Dr. Sundus, Dr. Naila Jadeen, Dr. Sidra Noor, Dr. Aisa Altaf, and Dr. Fatima, whose expertise and guidance made the session highly educational. APSU is grateful to all faculty members and participants for making this workshop a valuable and enriching experience.
